Five series of large format railroad-related prints will be in a rotating exhibit through fall 2017 at the O. Winston Link Museum. The first group, “Steam Era Locomotives: NW611,” is already on view in the Trackside Gallery. These feature the origins of the NW611 (Class J era) Steam Locomotives, built in the N&W Roanoke Shops.
The exhibits, curated by Ashley Webb of the Historical Society of Western Virginia, are based on photos that Norfolk Southern loaned to the Norfolk and Western Historical Society, which has made the Link showings possible. Historical Society supporter and Link Committee member Art Sellers has been instrumental in making the exhibits happen by working with the NW Historical Society.
The schedule for the exhibits is:
Through Nov. 1, 2016: “Steam Era Locomotives: NW611”
Nov. 7, 2016 – Jan. 29, 2017: “In the Railyard & On the Tracks”
Feb. 6 – April 30, 2017: “Beyond the Tracks”
May 8 – July 31, 2017: “Along the Line”
Aug. 7 – Oct. 23, 2017 (Tentative): Civil Engineering Drawings (From the Collection of NWHS)
