Deck the Doors 2025: Celebrating Creativity, Community, and Holiday Spirit

This holiday season, the Roanoke History Museum was filled with color, creativity, and festive cheer thanks to our annual Deck the Doors contest—and we couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible response from our community.

Local businesses, organizations, and artists transformed museum doors into imaginative works of art, each one showcasing unique interpretations of the season. From whimsical and nostalgic to bold and innovative, every door told a story and gave visitors something special to enjoy.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, each vote—cast with a donation either in person or online—helped raise funds for the education programs of the Roanoke History Museum/O. Winston Link Museum. Every dollar made a difference, supporting our mission to preserve and share Roanoke’s history with learners of all ages.

And the Winners Are…

After weeks of enthusiastic voting, we are excited to announce that the People’s Choice Award goes to Punch Boutique (Door 7)! The winner of the Judges’ Choice Award goes to Black Prim (Door #8). Congratulations on capturing the hearts (and votes!) of our community.

We’d also like to congratulate Cynthia Boyd, who was randomly selected from our voters to win a one-night stay at The Promissory Hotel, Roanoke’s newest boutique hotel located in the historic First National Exchange Bank building.

Deck the Doors is more than a contest—it’s a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community support. Thanks to the community, museum members, sponsors, and participating organizations, businesses, and artists, we were able to raise over $5,500 to continue free educational programming to Roanoke’s underserved communities.

Because of you, this year’s Deck the Doors was a festive success, and we’re already looking forward to what next year will bring. Until then, thank you for helping us keep Roanoke’s history vibrant and accessible for all.
