Artist Aicia Hollingsworth-Young at work

Thanks to Downtown Roanoke Inc. and artist Alicia Hollingsworth-Young, a new building mural celebrates our two museums, History Museum of Western Virginia and O. Winston Link Museum, and the lobby display honoring industrial designer Raymond Loewy. The artwork was completed this week on the front of the historical N&W passenger station on Shenandoah Avenue NE across from Hotel Roanoke. The building is also home to Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge and a state tourism bureau.

Downtown Roanoke wanted to bring a kind of creative cohesiveness to downtown after the pandemic hit by adding the murals, which are listed on the DRI website.

Artist Hollingsworth-Young was provided background on the museums by manager Lynsey Allie. From that she chose a design that incorporated an Avanti for Loewy, the 611 for Link and a historic postcard that includes all of our names. The artist is a graduate of Radford University and lives and works in Roanoke. Her specialties include acrylic painting, pencil drawing and large format pieces.
